Technical Manager – Marine
Job location: Bristol
Due to an increase in volume of work from new contracts and to support our continued growth, we are looking for a Technical Manager to join our Marine business area. This is a permanent role based in Bristol, in addition to the salary we offer up to 30 days leave, pension plan, optional health care plus a host of additional staff benefits.
The Marine business area provides a range of specialist products and services into the submarine market, most notably autopilot and hover control systems.
The successful candidate will have previously held demonstrable technical lead or technical manager roles and is likely (but not essential) to come from a marine/defence background with exposure to submarines.
Accountable for the technical success (high quality, on-time and profitable technical solution) of all Marine projects. Where a project utilises resource from other capability areas, work in collaboration with the other Technical Managers to jointly achieve a technically successful outcome. Manage and develop the owned capability (Marine) to ensure the necessary: skills, experience, tools, methods and processes are available to attract, win and deliver the technical solutions.
Responsible for the line management and conduct of all staff within the capability paying particular attention to:
Adherence to Company & HR policy (e.g. staff handbook).
Performance and development. Ensuring that formal development reviews (appraisals) are conducted in a timely and appropriate manner.
Working with other senior managers within the Company to maximise the efficiency and productivity of staff within the capability area.
Monitor current resource planning and look for improvement opportunities to ensure the best result for the Company as a whole.
Business Development and Bids
Responsible for the technical solution, schedule and budgetary estimates for all Marine bids.
Support the Business Development team to mature new opportunities and develop new customers
Attendance at shows, seminars and conferences as required
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Candidates should be able to demonstrate specific experience in at least two or more of the following areas:
Engineering degree in a relevant subject
Submarine domain knowledge
Control system design
Mathematical modelling & simulation
Safety-related software engineering
